Welcome to the website of Focal Point UK
Focal Point UK is a private sector agency providing high quality services to people with sight loss and professionals, from all sectors at all levels, who work in the field of visual impairment throughout the UK. Focal Point UK was formed in October 2005, it is a limited company and is VAT registered.
Focal Point UK provides:
- Functional low vision assessments & training
- Orientation & mobility assessments & training
- Training in independent living skills
- Assessments & training in all aspects of communication
- Assessments & training in high tech low vision devices such as video magnifies & close circuit television (CCTV)
- Specialist assessments – undertaking specialist rehab, functional low vision and mobility assessments for education departments, further and higher education establishments (as part of the Disability Students Allowance assessment process), employment services (access to work) and social services
- Visual awareness training packages
- Training for professionals – a wide range of sight loss related training courses are available to meet all professional needs (see our training brochure for further details)
- Consultancy – service planning, delivery and evaluation of services, advice and support on rehab and low vision equipment
- Rehabilitation services contracts - long term, spot contract and direct payment arrangements availble
- Professional Support Services – professional mentoring and supervision of rehab workers for visually impaired people and support staff, and other professionals in any sector
- Range of magnifiers and optical and non-optical low vision aids
- Wide range of specialist high-tech equipment for visually impaired people
- Access audits – advice and information on design of plans and adaptations for indoor and outdoor environments. Could be new build, or adaptations under disabled facilities grant work.
Staffed by qualified and experienced professionals who fully understand the needs of people who are blind & partially sighted & professionals in the field, Focal Point UK main aim is to improve the quality and standard of services available to visually impaired people throughout the UK. Focal Point UK supports visual impairment professionals and organisations throughout the UK, equipping them with the skills to fully meet the needs of their service users. Focal Point UK also provides direct support services to the health, social care, voluntary, education and employment sectors and will help you plan and deliver your services effectively, and provides additional professional support resources.
